Dwarka Expressway Opening: It is the country’s first elevated urban expressway in which 20 lakh metric tons of steel have been used, which is 30 times more steel used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower.

The residents of Gurugram and Delhi might get good news in the new year with the inauguration of India’s first elevated urban expressway, Dwarka Expressway. The Dwarka Expressway may be inaugurated in the last week of January after the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) receives the safety audit report. 99% of work has been completed on the Dwarka Expressway, which will connect Delhi and Gurugram and the NHAI is planning to open it for the general public in January 2024.

The total length of the Dwarka Expressway, the country’s first elevated urban expressway, is 29 kilometres, and 18.9 kilometres of it falls in Haryana’s Gurugram. Gurugram DC and NHAI officials have also visited the expressway and prepared a plan to open it soon. The total cost of this expressway will be more than Rs 9,000 crore, and it has been prepared by dividing it into four parts. The 10-kilometer stretch falls in Delhi, and 93 per cent of the work in Delhi has been completed.

More Steel Used Than Eiffel Tower

Talking about the speciality of Dwarka expressway, it is the country’s first elevated urban expressway in which 20 lakh metric tons of steel have been used, which is 30 times more steel used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower. Similarly, 20 lakh cubic meters of concrete have been used in its construction, which is 6 times more than that of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. Along with this, 12,000 trees have also been transplanted during the construction, which has happened for the first time on such a large scale in India.

Dwarka Expressway To Ease Travel Between Delhi And Gurugram

The Dwarka Expressway starts from Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur, Delhi, on National Highway 8 and ends at Khedki Daula Toll Plaza in Gurugram. After the construction of the Dwarka Expressway, it will take only 20 to 25 minutes to go from Delhi to Gurugram. People will be able to travel from Dwarka to Manesar in 15 minutes, from Manesar to Indira Gandhi International Airport in 20 minutes, from Dwarka to Singhu Border in 25 minutes, and from Manesar to Singhu Border in 45 minutes. With the construction of this expressway, not only will there be relief from traffic jams, but people’s journeys will also become easier.

The construction of a full cloverleaf flyover over the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway near Khedki Daula Toll Plaza was completed about a year ago. Due to the non-commissioning of the Gurugram portion of the Dwarka Expressway, the full cloverleaf flyover has also not been made operational. It has been constructed to connect the Southern Peripheral Road, Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and Dwarka Expressway.
