Gurugram: Clover-Leaf Linking Sohna Elevated Road, South Peripheral Road Gets In-Principle Approval
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has obtained preliminary approval to construct a clover-leaf structure at Vatika Chowk. This structure will facilitate connectivity between the Sohna elevated road and a proposed elevated stretch on the Southern Peripheral Road.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has obtained in-principle approval to construct a clover-leaf structure at Vatika Chowk, facilitating connectivity between the Sohna elevated road and a proposed elevated stretch on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). Officials familiar with the matter disclosed that the proposed stretch will link Vatika Chowk with the existing clover leaf on NH48, which intersects with the Dwarka expressway.
According to GMDA officials, the clover-leaf structure at Vatika Chowk and the elevated SPR project will play a crucial role in integrating various road networks, including the Sohna elevated road, Dwarka expressway, and NH48, thereby ensuring seamless traffic movement, as per a Hindustan Times report.
Currently, vehicles travelling from the Dwarka expressway and Delhi-Gurgaon highway utilise the clover-leaf at NH48 to access SPR via surface-level routes, eventually reaching Vatika Chowk on Sohna Road. Subsequently, they navigate through congested service lanes to reach the Sohna elevated road at Subash Chowk.
A meeting between senior GMDA and NHAI officials was convened at the NHAI headquarters to deliberate on expressway-related issues in Gurugram. During the session, the clover-leaf project was extensively discussed, with GMDA officials securing in-principle approval for the proposed construction.
A senior official from GMDA stated that the project was thoroughly discussed, and they urged the NHAI chairman to consider their proposal for constructing a clover leaf at Vatika Chowk. This proposal has received in-principle approval. Subsequently, they will task the project consultant with preparing a detailed report for the clover leaf, which will be submitted to NHAI for final approval.
As part of its plans, the GMDA intends to construct a 5.3-kilometre-long elevated road between Vatika Chowk and the clover leaf on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. This development aims to enhance traffic flow efficiency along this route. Furthermore, the elevated SPR and clover leaf at Vatika Chowk are expected to facilitate smooth travel between the Dwarka expressway, Delhi-Mumbai expressway, and NH48, ensuring controlled access for traffic movement.
Authorities have noted significant real estate development along the Southern Peripheral Road, particularly from Sector 69 to Sector 79, over the past five years. The area has witnessed the launch of numerous residential and commercial projects, leading to increased congestion and traffic volume on SPR.
A GMDA official emphasised that this stretch connects four significant roads: NH48, the Sohna elevated road, the Dwarka expressway, and the Delhi-Mumbai expressway. Consequently, there is an expected substantial increase in traffic on this stretch, necessitating integration with these major roads through an elevated section.
