Gurugram’s Southern Peripheral Road Elevated Corridor Project Re-Enters Planning Stage As GMDA Seeks Fresh DPR For Key Stretch

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has restarted planning for the long-delayed Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) elevated corridor by inviting bids to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the 6 km Ghata Chowk–Vatika Chowk stretch.
The proposed stretch forms part of a larger 12 km elevated corridor envisioned to create a signal-free route linking Ghata Chowk with National Highway-8.
According to a TOI report, the selected consultant will undertake traffic studies, geotechnical investigations, utility mapping, structural assessments and alignment planning before finalising the DPR and tender documents.
The authority expects the report to be completed within three months of the consultant’s appointment, following which construction tenders may be floated.
“We have initiated the process of appointing a consultant for the upgradation of SPR between Vatika Chowk and Ghata Chowk. Once the agency is on board, it will take around three months to prepare the DPR. After receiving the necessary approvals, a construction tender will be floated. The proposed elevated corridor is being planned on the lines of Dwarka Expressway, with the objective of ensuring seamless traffic movement along the corridor. Other aspects of service road, drainage and footpath will also be addressed,” a GMDA official was quoted as saying by TOI.
